So who's up for HBP this week? :D :D :D

Have some pics of our adventures over the weekend - only I don't know how to rotate them on here, so until I upload them properly, your necks will have to suffer!

Oh look I fixed it )

Found out Gawri's on my team starting next week, WOOHOO. Opinion of my partner just keeps sinking further and further each week. 'Hes a nice guy' just isn't enough to cover it any more. Sometimes I'm afraid of the fact that in a year and a bit, we'll be unleashed on the public.

Learnt today that hiking ~15k, with half an hour ride on a camel is probably not the smartest thing to do (even though both were brilliant!!) when you're going to a party that night. Especially when you start drinking Black forest cake cocktails and midnight samurais, because you will really not want to socialise with anyone and inevitably end up falling asleep and missing actual cake and birthday related things. On take tomorrow from 12. Which isn't that bad. but its 2 now. so... urgh.

On plus side, no blisters!

Dress up for Ash's masquerade 21st: Step 1: dress up boyfriend instead of self. Step 2: find figure who will fit both the masked theme, and the cocktail theme (very difficult step btw)

quite a few images under cut! )

Escaped early from the hospital today (rather productive day as well- what with consultant presentations, not looking stupid and a grand round that was actually useful!).  After a mild episode of hoon driving with C outside her public library, met up with Adonis to start on his mask for Saturday. Strange boy has never paper mache-d anything before :O I cannot understand this - surely I wasn't the only person who finished primary school and left a trail of paint/glue/cut up paper/paper mache/half finished mothers day mugs in their wake. Anyway, this turned out to be a slight problem when we used the hairdryer to dry the first few layers, only  to see parts of the face slowly rise up and become bloated because he'd used self raising flour... *facepalm* hehe great fun though! Only now I have dried flour and water on my elbows, which is strange given I was wearing a full sleeved jumper.

+ FINALLY a rotation this year that expects me to work hard, and won't leave me feeling like I've done/learnt nothing this year
+ reg really wants to teach

- I have to work
- hard
- from the first day.
- I just came home and slept yesterday :(
- new partner snorting his way through physical exams like a human vacuum cleaner. I am guilty of a sniff or two, but this! And right in the patient's face! And no washing hands! USE A FRICKIN TISSUE. *shudder*

that aside:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADONITE!

I will endeavor to escape some time today :)

Dinner with the adonite-family for his birthday!

173 Mounts Bay Road - Old Swan Brewery - CRAWLEY WA Tel:9321 2588

Place looked:
Really nice. Its in the Swan brewery. Getting there is a tad inconvenient, being off Mounts Bay Road. Anyway, you get there, cross the bridge, walk down a set off stairs then down a looooooooooong plain white corridor until there's a small door on your right  with 'Zafferano' stamped on the side. In fact, that entrance looks like a cupboard. But you open it and are hit with a wave of swanky music, a great view of the river/city, stiff backed waiters and the type of guests who say 'OHM-biONCE' and speak through their money. S-o-M: 8/10
Food was: OVERPRICED. Ok, it was good I admit. Had the gnocci and their crayfish dish, which was YUM. But I'm guessing people go here for the idea of going here rather than, well... I mean, there are more... comfortable places to eat 'YUM' food. *shrugs*.
Cost:  Their signature dish was $85,most mains average $50, entrees average $30.
Best thing: The cocktails. LOVE LOVED my one - Jo-Jo-Ivory. Oh my chocolate alcohol lovin tastebuds!
Service: shadows your every move. :S Also took a really long time for the food to come. I think we were waiting an hour and a half between ordering and being served.

Always leaves me both highly amused and slightly passive aggressive.

Running along the river at night is really peaceful. I'm really glad J is there to guilt me out of the house because otherwise I'd spend my entire holiday curled under the doona just eating and becoming a slug. And its a really weird feeling when your lungs and body feel like they're on fire, but your hands are as cold as ice. I should buy gloves - wait I have gloves! But they're in that flippin cupboard. grrrrrr. Speaking of Gir, I finally finished Invader Zim. By jimminy that show is great. Onwards to Ergo Proxy, which I've already seen a couple of eps of- it looks creepy and dark and incredibly interesting!

Couple of requests:
- Does anyone have a copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin or Tom Brown's School Days I could borrow?
- Anyone have the latest Supernatural season I could grab off you? I have up to 4.10, so anything after would be great.

There's a massive sale at Kathmandu. Yes I know there are massive sales everywhere in the city, but the one in Kathmandu eclipses them alllll. Bought most of the stuff I need for elective with everything on average 50% off, and the cost still came to an alarmingly high number. :S Also on the :S-side, the thick waterproof jacket is (at least a bearable shade of) pink. *frown* Now I have all these warm clothes packed away and my feet are freezing because APPARANTLY I can't take care of anything I own. Geez, you shrink one jumper in this house and you're condemned for life.

[info]sploogal's party was great fun. Sorry I didn't spell your name with a 'y' on your card. I realised as soon as I'd written it out but figured I'd avoid the giant scribbly black mess of correction. Hats were great - wore A's pac-man one which 1) made me look ridiculous and 2) unfortunately doomed me to dying early in the game of Alpacas and Llamas. Well, I was doomed anyway given that Sheeba's strategy consisted of killing anyone who wouldn't be taken in with the wide-eyed innocent look and the fast(er than usual) talking, and suspect her to be capable of murder :"(. Thoroughly disturbed by our nominated God.

My PPD mentor thinks he's getting referenced write up number 1 this Wednesday. Calling tomorrow to let him know he's sadly mistaken. Still not sure if I like him or not, and whether I'm really bothered either way.

La Galette de France details below!

Place looked: Small. Clean. Man I wish there was a pic of it I could link, but theres zilch! Internet you have failed me. I even tried to look on google streetview, but they show a different place! (well, its got a different french name and banner, but I suspect its the same store). Driven past it loads of times, never even noticed it was there. Anyway, it was packed. S-o-M: 1/10
Food was:  my god so great. I think I've probably had a bad run of croissants before this - you know, all hard/crust is thick and boggy/filling just sucks, so this was my first GOOD one, and you always remember your firsts ;)
Cost: as above. SERIOUSLY WORTH IT.
Best thing: Eating beautiful, light, crispy, flaky ham and cheese croissants, with the odd chocolate one as well, whilst sitting on a bench by the river with Ando, basking in morning sun.
Service: Good the first time I went. The second time I went, he gave me a smile and a free chocolate croissant because apparantly they had come out a bit smaller, so frankly, I love him.

Another run this morning- really surprised at how much we've improved - all the way to and halfway back from the brewery, and then another run back from the swimmer. We felt so proud of ourselves we decided to celebrate by waking up Adonis then swing past La Galette De France on Broadway. We found a bench by the river with a beautiful view of the calm water and the city and ate our way through ham&cheese, almond and chocolate croissants. SO DELICIOUS. Next week we're going back for crepes. :D

In other news: Adonite got his hair cut, then his mother asked me to buy him pants and shoes (buying boys shoes is incredibly difficult. As is buying boys clothing. all the stores seem to stock exactly the same stuff :S) and now he is so pretty it is slightly ridiculous. My mood is not in theme with to going to the goth hangout tonight. (hooray dress up!)

413 William St Northbridge, 6003  Phone: 9228 1981

Place looked:
Pretty terrible from the outside! I saw it and was like *sigh* bring on the MSG. The inside is completely different though - all new and shiny and done up with comfortably squishy seats. So I guess they're keeping the front like that for a bit of character (er). Seems to be a good restaurant area! Small and v. relaxed. S-O-M: 3/10
Food was:  appetiser: garlic & chilli tofu, mains: kung po beef, lemon chicken, steamed rice.  Warning to others, these are both sweet!!  Adonis is in love with sweet things so he was in heaven, I like a bit of contrast myself and would probably have faired better with a savoury dish. That said, both were delicious! also the beef had these whole dried chillis throughout it and the moment you ate one you were like kung POW! (haha sorry) Serving size of the entree and mains is quite decent - I thought the rice servings were small, but in the end could barely finish because of the rest. Ando had this fried bun thing with custard for dessert that he thought was great.Ando had this fried bun thing with custard for dessert that he thought was great.
Cost: $42 something for food + drinks. If you leave before 7, you get a 10% discount. I have never come across this before and it amuses me no end.
Best thing: It was a really nice night out after a generally crap day.
Service: It was pretty quiet when we went it, so we were seen to straight away. Food came quickly as well and generally really efficient.

There's a storm outside this morning. Which means theres a >85% chance I will be rained on, on the way to RPH. I have an umbrella, but there is a >75% chance it will flip inside out, or flap inside from the edges, making it useless. A >60% chance I'll miss the bus change in the city and be forced to wait for half an hour in a bus stop that will undoubtedly be crammed with 85% >60yo so I'll have to stand outside. We were told to turn up at 8.30, but there is a >95% chance that noone will turn up until at least 9.30, and once they actually turn up, there is a >40% chance that we will look/feel stupid after the mini interrogation we'll be put through. >50% chance we'll get yet another chronic HIV or flippin food allergy. actually probably 100% chance we'll have to follow a penicillin allergy challenge. And then as clinic will run late in >80% of cases, a decent lunch will be doubtful, and we'll have to get to RPH clinic for a tute on something I have <30% chance of actually needing to know in the rest of my medical career. And then chasing a file that is >60% likely to be with an ophthal consultant I probably wont be able to find.

SIGH. Do not want to go in today.

I hadn't realised that the final 3 Pushing Daisies eps had been released! Hooray!

Adon and I went searching for Hot Fried Instant mi goreng and ended up buying  a carton. Best lunch ever! I found a suitable patient for my case report yesterday, which means my immunology option is reaaaaally relaxed from here on in. Getting quite a bit of non-med reading done which is a refreshing change! Still watching my way through Invader Zim (been getting home quite late so only manage to watch a couple eps before I fall asleep on the couch. Not sure its the best show to fall asleep to, given the strange dreams I've been having.) and then I have Code Geass waiting for me.

Just came back from a (looong) first day of my immunol option. Incredibly interesting. Blew off lindy hop to have dinner with Adon at new!Steve's. Place looks v. shiny indeed (looks like someone got bored and flicked globs of chocolate on the walls),but food was questionable bordering on crap. Too tired to do anything but sleep. zzzz

Overkill, you might say, but M and C have been running up and down Jacobs Ladder  most nights for a month already. (Admittedly they're going to the Everest Base Camp, so its a little different). So excited!! And now slightly worried after reading all the internet blogs of the ascent.

I've always been a bit concerned about my memory. I seem to be able to forget things *really* easily. Reading things the night before is useless, which is why i need to take detailed notes with me on ward rounds - no matter how much material I've read/studied the night before. The only thing I seem to be quite good at, is remembering faces. And unimportant (usually social) things. Which is why although I say I'm concerned, I'm only... I don't know, mildly concerned? May contain traces of concern. I think thats why I like pulling all nighters/cramming in the morning so much. Its not the best way to learn things long term, I know, but for the next 2 -5 hours, I've got more chance of remembering! (Reason why I'm thinking of this is not because of ophthal exam tomorrow, rather I was watching Talking About My Generation, and they played all these TV shows that I could have sworn I'd never watched except for perhaps an episode or a half. When I told my mum this, she looked at me strangely and told me I used to watch them religiously when I was 10-12, and made everyone else watch them too).

(also, G.I.P only not, given all this text. whatever. just look at the icon already. :))
