Been back for a couple of days now - there was meant to be a giant post of Kalbarri related goodness... but I think we're too relaxed to be bothered. :P Here's the summary: Sand is still in my car, which is still covered in dead bugs and red dirt. There was hiking, insane cliffs, jumping in the river, canoeing, fish and chips on the jetty, camping, fishing, fic writing (:P) and SO MUCH Vicar of Dibley. I didn't have the slightest clue how dirty that show was! Best thing: dragging out our chairs so we could sit in front of the river and drink our tea and dnm in the mornings.

J and I spent the entire day yesterday planning our trip. The Greek public transport system is fricken UNDECIPHERABLE - even with the English translation turned on. On the upside, after a few hours we managed to become pretty good at sounding out the characters and translating the timetables! TripAdvisor.com is an absolute legend. On the downside, from the Kili climb onwards, we're going to be on our feet from around 6:30 every day (earlier on some), catching trains, hiking, catching buses all over the place. I feel tired just thinking about it hehe. With the release of results looming next Monday, can't help but feel sick to my stomach at the thought of getting the phonecall. So I'm trying my best not to think of it (but its there! everytime I do something on the assumption that I'll pass).

Ando made me watch Moon tonight. Usually I'm a bit hesitant to see the things he fanboys (learnt my lesson after watching John Safran's Race Relations with him - dear god that show is almost painfully awkward/disgusting), but on this occasion I am so glad I did. A really simple film that only had 10 actors credited, but really there were 2 for the majority of the film. Adon's said it's his dream to go into space, but I'm not brave enough for that. I'm pretty comfortable with being by myself in general, but the absolute detachment of space just scares me no end. I reckon thats why swimming in the ocean (where its just darkness below you) freaks me out (although this is to a much lesser extent). Kevin Spacey has a really soothing voice - spent most of the film wanting to glomp Gerty. Soundtrack was pretty amazing as well - someones uploaded the entire thing to youtube :)

Icon overhaul! :D

AURGHLE. Its 3am and I'm a strange mixture of being both terrified for tomorrow
(see also: 'observed clinical exam', 'being/feeling horribly underprepared' and 'impending dooooom')
and terribly excited (see: roadtrip, beach, booze, getting the hell away from Perth, not having to stare at my notes for at least the next 9 days).

Had a fantastic nap from 7pm til 2.30am, so its not like I'll turn up tomorrow with bloodshot eyes and possibly pass out during the exam. Gotta run through obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics once more, then maybe go over skin lesions again and I'll hopefully be at a point where I'm resigned enough to stop studying (or its time for me to drive in).

LESS THAN 12 HOURS AND THIS WILL ALL BE OVER :O

For those of you still in two minds/didn't want to stay the whole week:

we're leaving friday literally straight after the osce (lolol)
we're staying one night in a tent in dongara
then onwards to a cabin in kalbarri
C and I are coming back on Thursday morning
A is coming back on Monday. he will probably give you a lift if you ask nicely!
Plan is to go completely nuts on Saturday, and try and continue this for as long as possible!

So if that changes your minds, and you want to do something completely insane after exams, let me or C know!

The bad thing about forwarding all your email accounts to gmail is that sometimes you accidentally reply to slightly official people with a slightly official looking report which seem far less professional when it comes from 'elmomademedoit'.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

PPD IS SUCH A FRICKIN PAIN. BUT IT IS NOW DONE. COMPLETELY. I handed in my thing last week and the receptionist went psycho on me as if I had INTENTIONALLY gone out of my way to not get my mentor to sign it (he just marked my articles, as I had a 2007 copy of the form that didn't have a signature place specified). As the coordinator was as uncontactable as possible and i'd only be able to get my mentor to sign it on mondays/weds when he goes to his office, I immediately sent off a courtesy this-is-whats-going-on-apologies email that she obviously hadn't even bothered reading as I went into today to hand it in and PSYCHO RECEPTIONIST - who could do with being put through a goddamn PPD course herself since she's got as much personality as a BLACK HOLE- gave me some more passive aggressive bullshit. Frankly I don't care if faculty is monitoring this, as no names are specified and whatever, because her attitude just REALLY PISSED ME OFF. I understand as students we're not the most important people, but frankly in the midst of exam stress in the most important year of med school, I will not put up with people giving me hell over a unit that was set up for the purpose of making sure students don't top themselves from stress. F. U. FACULTY.

 - Your boyfriend's mother insisting you have dinner with them, and to just ignore your bf if he's so busy cramming :)
 - Impromptu ice-cream eating and gossiping on a hammock, when the sun is sinfully, swelteringly hot and you're pretty sure you've sweated a bum patch into your pants.
 - Hearing your mentor go 'Pfffffft. don't worry about it.' when you tell him that you've handed in something you kind of needed him to pass you on and hand in last month.
 - Putting the masses of paper (that have been growing over every available surface in your house), into a file and realising its not quite as bad as you thought it was.
 - Realising, when you're making your umpteenth cup of tea, that in just over 4 weeks, you might be setting foot in Africa.

I didn't like the idea of staying alone at first. But at times like these, where the house is quiet, the traffic has died down, the dishes clean, the fish are fed, you're guaranteed food for the night  and you finally have a decent topic for that stupid Aboriginal health talk due next week; times like these, it doesn't seem so bad.

I really love this set by Vincent Bousserez. I've had this obsession for miniatures ever since i saw the playschool rocket clock :)

Next time a scarily tall registrar says 'If you want someone to just tick all the little boxes and sign you off, I'm happy to do it, it wasn't that long ago that I used to be a medical student.' to you do not

1. Freeze
2. Sniff the cookie
3. Listen to your conscience
4. Decide cookie is possibly poisoned.
5. Change rooms to a cookie-less, chip-less consultant*

EVEN IF said reg started your sit in with a loud and booming 'NO ASSESSMENTS I WILL NOT DO ASSESSMENTS TODAY.'
This sudden reversal of cookie fate is NOT a trap. You are a cookie charmer. Go forth and seek the cookie.

Go and hunt down the cookie man.

*who btw, is absolutely hilarious, spent most of the consults trying to stifle my laughter

GRAAAAH. Day 5 of a spate of vicious hayfever attacks that leave me wanting to claw my eyes/nose out. Resorted to doubling my antihistamine dose. I think I'll try the drowsy ones which I was avoiding because I had to drive. Either that or cash in my referral for desensitisation.

Had such a great day/night out tonight! mmmm for strawberry hot chocolate :)  and pizza, and turkish bread on the foreshore! Absolutely didn't deserve it, so as penance I'm limiting all social events til exams. No tav, no foreshore, no going to houses except for things i've already agreed to.

Back to eating cucumbers as the mother is convinced my itchy eyes will be cured by them. *suppresses urge to roll eyes* blergh delivery shift tomorrow :S

Yesterday was crazy! Was a shame to leave the BoB early but was panicking as I was stuck north of the river and there was no way to get back home and back to the jetty in time. CUE CRAZY SHENANIGANS WITH S AND C. borrowed dresses, shoes, bags and narrowly avoided a desperate buy at the Hideous Dress Shop. Sally awesomely agreed to drive me there, jumped out at the lights, attaching things along the way and got there on time woohoo!! hehe. It was great because the weather was so warm and people friendly, not so great as I was apparantly really really allergic to something on the boat, and being a boat, there was no way I could escape it :( Ears were assaulted by the early 90s/00s the ENTIRE NIGHT. Sheeba, I think your love for boy bands has some serious competition here :)

Now to dose myself up with antihistamines and go examine pregnant people.

Uni on weekend is fail.

Spent the day watching Supernatural*. really not the best use of my time**... but... I have always had poor study ethic... Not an excuse but there you go. Thursday felt vaguely sore throat/feverish, so I pulled the don't-wanna-kill-babies card and called off sick (helps that McG told us not to come near the place if we thought we were ill.) despite feeling mildly better on Friday and having a great time at Cap S for drinks, woke up Saturday with what inevitably was the start of tonsillitis. Frack. Luckily scored myself a dime a dozen GP who didn't bother taking my temp or looking at my throat  but loaded me with antibiotics and a sent me on my way with a med certificate. DODGY. The guy's hx taking skills were comprised of "Do you have a fever?" (yes) "Are you allergic to penicillin?" (no), a gratuitous gripe about Medicare (insert vaguely assenting noises)and "Are you on the pill?" tossed in as I was getting up to leave. Sunday was awesome, even more so because A whisked me off and unlike normal people, he has no aversion to tonsillitis or tofu \o/.

*Caught up on S4 - really loving the apocalypse storyline! And Castiel. Man. Screw the Js. Or J squared, or whatever the fandom is calling them nowadays. The ep where they're making fun of the fandom(418 from memory) is comedy GOLD :P

**Other uses of my time: Watching Better Off Ted S1 (so great), 30 Rock S3 (hilarious), Bored to Death (average at best),

Just saw Mao's Last Dancer with the mother. Conclusion: Book >> Movie.
Seemed pretty disjointed - like they'd obviously lifted scenes from the book, and just flicked back and forth between them. Mum said the good stuff was in the detail of the book, and I have to agree. Ran into Justin (or rather, heard him first :P) and he reckoned it was a good movie if you weren't going into it having read it first. Hm.

In other news, watched S1 of Better Off Ted which gives off strong The Office/Arrested Development/Dead Like Me vibes. Its really addictive!

ROFL
A kookaburra just flew smack  bang into the common room window. Its now sitting on the pole a foot away looking rather surprised. I'm having one of those days too, man. Didn't see Steven's trailer and scraped a bit of my car ;( its shallow so I'll rub some of the paint in and hopefully my dad wont notice.  Also, apparantly I'm the reason why one of the midwives is going to apply for grad med. hehe

Place looked: Pretty shiny! tbh there weren't that many places to eat. the one across the road was packed to the seams so we opted for this one instead. We sat on the second table in the first pic, and they've changed all the paintings (you can buy them, if say you had a spare few hundred) to an Aboriginal theme. the wall opposite has a whole bunch of photos, and then near the top, above the eyeline of 6yos, a giant picture of a naked woman. Its just so out of place that i wonder if someone put it up as a joke and then forgot to take it down lol. S-o-M: 3/10
Cost: pretty expensive. we ordered too much for the two of us. three people could have comfortably eaten what we did and have it come to ~$15-20ish each. But what we *did* order, was great! Tasting plate was really good value, and delicious! and the pizza (we had the Veneta) was thin crust, and flippin delicious (YES ADON EVEN THOUGH IT HAD MUSHROOMS).
Best thing: The paper tablecloths! man, totally regretted not taking a pen/pencil so I could scribble on it... That, and the tasting plate.
Service: decent.
